This “healthy” fat may be killing you

It was only just a few decades ago that the general public shunned butter in favor of its artificial replacement, margarine. And it’s only been recently that we have become aware that most margarines contain trans fats, even if it isn’t actually mentioned on the label due to that whole “0.5 grams or less doesn’t need to be listed” sham.

Now, we have another newly toxic fat to add to our list of things that were purported to be healthy, but are in fact, not healthy at all.

Soybean oil. In fact, in recent studies, mice that ate soybean oil gained 25% more weight than mice on other diets. They also suffered more negative health consequences, such as the development of fatty livers and diabetes.

The worst part is that the mice were fed to simulate the amount of soybean oil Americans eat each day. Soybean oil hides in things you may not even be aware of, like protein bars, snack cakes and even your favorite ready-made cupcake frosting.

It may be time to ditch processed foods altogether.
