Chron’s disease is usually treated with pharmaceutical drugs that are often ineffective. One young boy has been managing the disease by taking cannabis oil every day, and attributes to this treatment the fact that he is alive and well.
Chron’s disease causes a chronic inflammation that attacks a person’s gastrointestinal tract in order to attack the body’s harmless antigens. Symptoms of the disease range from mild stomach pains to diarrhea, nausea, fevers, vomiting and weight loss. It’s not usually fatal; deaths mostly occur because of complications arising from infections, or because of colon cancer, which is an additional risk for patients.
The disease can cause damage to the intestines and organs. Sores may develop and break through the intestinal wall, and even in cases that are not severe, dehydration can occur. Often, the body cannot absorb proteins, potassium, calcium and other minerals.
Coltyn Turner is a teenage boy who has been fighting Crohn’s disease since he was 11 years old. He controls the disease by taking cannabis oil four times a day. “I’d rather be illegally alive than legally dead,” said Coltyn.
After using a host of pharmaceutical drugs, which did nothing to help him, and in a desperate attempt to find relief, he admitted that he turned to taking cannabis oil. He ingested the oil up to four times per day. The results? He was soon able to ride a bike for the first time in years and reports an almost miraculous recovery.
A study conducted by a team of researchers at the Institute of Gastroenterology at Tel Aviv University in Israel was the first to report on cannabis and Crohn’s disease. Within the study, 70 percent of participants showed dramatic improvement.
“The marijuana plant Cannabis sativa has been reported to produce beneficial effects for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, but this has not been investigated in controlled trials,” the researchers concluded. “We performed a prospective trial to determine whether cannabis can induce remission in patients with Crohn’s disease.” The findings show that TCH-rich cannabis produced significant benefits to patients with active Chron’s disease, without side effects.
